Hong Kong politics

My start as a reporter coincided with major anti-government protests breaking out in Hong Kong in the summer of 2019. In those months, I went to dozens of demonstrations and interviewed activists, protesters, lawmakers and pundits on the city’s evolving political landscape.

Much has changed since. Over the years, my reporting has moved from the streets to the court room, where major national security trials and politics-related cases are playing out. In between, I’ve also covered the shutdown of civil society groups and declining press freedom.

Some of my reporting highlights include interviewing the outgoing US consul-general in Hong Kong; having yumcha with a group of elderly who regularly attend politics-related court hearings; and breaking a story on a 2019 protester who received a HK$1.7 million bill for alleged injuries to a police officer during a demonstration.
